Furnaces for heat treatment are used for different applications. Examples include furnaces for slab heating, isothermal annealing, solution annealing of stainless steel and Duplex materials or gas carburizing. For the transport of the parts to be heat treated through the different furnaces, furnace rolls, walking beams, chain link belts or grate systems are used. In case of a controlled atmosphere in the furnace, radiant heating tubes are used for the indirect heating of the furnaces.

In most of the furnaces the temperature range is between 900°C and 1200°C. This is the application temperature for heat resistant cast materials, centrifugal, static or investment cast. These materials have proofed optimal for this application since decades because of a significantly higher creep rupture strength. This is caused by a coarser grain structure and the higher carbon content in comparison to forged or drawn materials.
